World Mental Health Day at NMH

This year's theme is to talk – to set aside 8 minutes each day to call someone you care about. It's easier than you think, and means more than you can imagine.

World Mental Health Day is a national public health campaign on mental health, marked in October each year. The goal is to increase openness, knowledge and understanding about mental health, and to mobilise for initiatives and engagement across the country.

What's happening at NMH on this day?

At NMH, we mark the day with lectures, coffee and roll servings, and a stand in the foyer.

11:00–12:00: Lecture by Karette Stensæth

The slogan of NMH's rectorate is "Better Together". Does this always hold for us at NMH? Do we feel better being together and playing with others and for others? And what kind of significance can musical interaction have for our mental health? Can music, through interaction with others, be a health resource for musicians themselves? And can making music mean something for others' mental health? What kinds of connections are there between music and mental health, both for students and teachers within a community like NMH and outward in a world where wars are escalating and climate changes are threatening the planet's ecology? These are some of the questions I will touch upon in my World Mental Health Day lecture.

11:00–14:00: Stand with SiO

The Student Welfare Association (SiO) specialises in student health. They have, among other things, general practitioners, dentists, psychologists, counselors, and public health nurses. Their services are free or have reduced prices for students.
