Guidelines for the use of AI

A close-up of a sort of ornamented wall with a tree inn the background.

How should we approach using artificial intelligence in teaching and assignments? NMH and several educational institutions have asked this question, and now the rectorate has adopted guidelines.

Last summer, the Study Committee set up an interdisciplinary working group to draft guidelines for using AI-based text generation programs. The working group drafted a proposal that was submitted for consultation with the program committee and the student committee and adopted in June 2024.

The working group consisted of Elisa Vik, Håkon Kvidal, Gjertrud Pedersen, Johan Jørgensen and Ellen M. Stabell (leader) and Cecilie Welde and Mitra Fagerli Rahman from SUT.

Lightning-fast development – new review next summer

The guidelines will initially apply for one year, after which they must be reviewed again, given the lightning-fast development of AI.

NMH uses Sikt's AI solution

Employees and students at NMH should use SIKT AI chat. Sikt is the knowledge sector's service provider, and you log in with a Feide password. This service ensures privacy and data storage and limits further training of the algorithm based on user input data.

Go to the guidelines for the use of AI

Guidelines for using AI-based text generation programs are published on student.nmh.no. They say something about how you can use AI tools as learning support, what AI is not suitable for, and how to refer to the use of AI.

Here, you can familiarize yourself with NMH's guidelines for the use of AI
