Course description
Chamber music for classical percussionists on the study programmes UTBA and KAMP.
Percussion Ensemble places great demands on the students in the practical organization of a large body of instruments.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to
- have the capacity for a critical assessment of sound in relation to a musical work's idea and notation
- have knowledge of relevant percussion repertoire
- be able to arrange and carry out percussion concerts
- master the performer part in a concert situation
Overview
The course includes
- rehearsals and performances of music for percussion ensemble
- design of posters and concert programs
- design and distribution of press releases
- setting up rehearsal schedules, agreements with composers, light and sound technicians
- planning stage setup and stage clearing
Structure
The course is normally taught 2 times 45 minutes a week for 24 weeks. Some of these lessons may be organized as projects.
3-4 concerts and/or studio recordings are carried out each year. Students are expected to work independently with the tasks given and be involved in the whole process from planning to implementation.
Course requirements
- Attendance and active participation are mandatory. More than 20% absence from class will normally cause the student to fail the subject.
- Students must participate in 3-4 concerts and/or projects per year.
Final assessment
All coursework requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Students are assessed in correspondence to the learning objectives of the course. The final assessment is expressed with the grades pass/fail, and set by the course coordinator on the basis of individual assessment of the student’s skills throughout the course period.
New assessment
Students who do not pass the course must attend the course again in its entirety.
