Course description
The course provides an introduction to basso continuo playing on the harp.
Learning objectives
On completion of this course, the student is expected to
- be familiar with various forms and styles within basso continuo
- demonstrate basic practical skills in basso continuo
Overview
Based on the student’s existing skills, the course includes work on using the harp as an accompaniment instrument in vocal and instrumental music where basso continuo is employed.
The content of the course will typically include:
- An overview of different methods of figuring and performance styles.
- Theoretical insights into various forms of basso continuo.
- Development of the student’s practical skills in basso continuo.
Structure
Teaching is normally conducted individually. Students with more than 20% absence lose the right to active participation in teaching and ongoing supervision.
Students are automatically enrolled in teaching/supervision and assessment for the course, according to the progression outlined in the education plan.
Course requirements
The student must present a repertoire list of at least 20 minutes, covering different types of basso continuo performance.
Deadline: By May 15 of the second semester, the repertoire list must be approved by the course tutor.
Final assessment
All work requirements for the course must be approved for the student to receive a final assessment.
The final assessment is expressed as Pass/Fail and is determined based on a practical examination with at least two internal examiners. The student performs a self-selected program from the studied repertoire, lasting approximately 15 minutes.
New assessment
If the assessment is not passed, the practical examination must be retaken.
