Course description
This course provides an opportunity for in-depth instrument training. Students will develop their performance skills and learn new repertoire from various styles and periods.
The course is for students on the Master of Music in Conducting programme.
Responsible: Elective course coordinator.
Learning objectives
On completion of the course, students are expected to:
- be able to perform music in an interesting and personal manner
- be sure of their own style and creative in solo and ensemble playing
- have gained a wide repertoire in various styles and traditions
Overview
The repertoire is chosen with the intention of building a widest possible repertoire within students’ interests and proficiency levels. A large part of the course is learning new repertoire. The course places heavy demands on students’ ability to judge and create independent musical renditions.
Structure
Individual lessons, 30 minutes a week for 24 weeks. 15 minutes a week of accompaniment.
Course requirements
At the end of the academic year, students will hand in a list of repertoire with a duration of 60 minutes. The list must be approved by the course teacher.
Final assessment
All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Assessment is based on the learning objectives. The final assessment will be given as a pass/fail mark, which will be determined in a practical exam by to examiners, of which one will be the principal instrument teacher.
Practical exam
The student performs a 20 minutes programme for a jury of to internal examiners.
