Neighbourhood Cooperation on Recycling

We save the environment and prevent fully functional objects from being thrown into landfill.

NMH has agreed with the Police College, MF and STAMI to cooperate in offering each other furniture and loose items that would otherwise had become trash.

Instead of throwing away a desk, chair or sofa, we will ask if some neighbours want them. This is how we save the environment and prevent fully functional objects from being thrown into landfill.

The Deal

In April, the neighbours around Slemdalsvegen 11, the Police College, the Congregational Faculty and the Norwegian Working Environment Institute (STAMI) agreed on a routine for re-use cooperation.

  • A group at the institutions contact each other when they have to give away furniture and other loose items. They attach a short description and possibly measurements and some pictures.
  • They can set a deadline for a response, and if no one has shown interest within the deadline, the process continues internally without further follow-up with the group.
  • The items must initially be free. Handover preferably takes place physically, and costs must be agreed upon separately.
  • The collaboration is meant as a re-use initiative among the four institutions, but other actors can sign up.
  • All the institutions contribute to spreading information about the collaboration internally and can set up the collaboration as a measure in environmental reports.
