Course description

KONSPRO70 provides a theoretical and methodological introduction to working with development of concerts, planning concerts and other performances in different formats, aimed at different target groups. The course has entrepreneurial elements like learning to see opportunities in different market segments and value chains, and how to utilize these opportunities. The course also provides communication training and an introduction to PR and marketing.

Concert concepts developed in KONSPRO70 may be carried out if students take the follow up-course KONSPRO71 in the spring semester.

Learning objectives

On completion of the course, students are expected to:

  • possess insight into the organisation of musical and cultural life, as well as professional value chains for performance and creative musicians
  • possess thorough theoretical and methodological knowledge of concert production in general
  • have knowledge of various parts of the market, value chains and target groups that are relevant to their own productions
  • be able to develop a realistic concert concept that includes artistic and entrepreneurial elements

  • The organization of musical and cultural life.
  • Concepts and principals from entrepreneurship in music.
  • Value chains in society independent of the sector, including project presentations and writing applications.
  • Concert dramaturgy, storytelling and staging.
  • Developing an artistic concept where students are performers and program creators.
  • Making a PR plan for various formats and channels.
  • Developing a portfolio presentation for use in launching a career.

Structure

Approximate teaching resource is 90 minutes a week for 10 weeks. Students may be divided into groups for creating their concert concept. Each group has the possibility of receiving group tutoring.

Course requirements

  1. The student must develop a plan for a concert project adapted to a specific target group and venue. The plan must include a concert script with artistic content, as well as a plan for funding and suggestions of possible collaborators.
  2. Students must hold an oral presentation showing their concert plan for their teacher and fellow students.

Deadline: All coursework must be finished by 1 December.

Final assessment

All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.

Assessment is based on the learning objectives. Final assessment will be given as a pass/fail mark, which will be determined by the course coordinator based on each student’s level of achievement throughout the course period.

New assessment

In the case of re-assessment, students must retake the course.
