Course description

The course gives the student the oportunity to learn to play sheet music on the guitar and practical use of the instrument. The course cannot be chosen by students with guitar as their main instrument.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of the course, it is expected that the student

  • has musical and technical skills in playing the guitar as an accompaniment instrument for singing and playing

Overview

Based on the students' prerequisites and future professional situations, the course will include work on

  • playing from sheet music/tablature
  • simple guitar pieces and technical exercises
  • ensemble playing and accompaniment
  • guitar technique

Structure

The instruction is provided individually and/or in groups of two to four students. The content and methods are adapted to the students' level. The indicative instructional resource is 22.5 minutes per student per week for 22 weeks.

Course requirements

By the end of the academic year the student shall present a curriculum/repertoire list of at least 20 minutes, covering all areas of study in the course.

Deadline: The curriculum/repertoire list must be approved by the instructor by May 1st in the second semester

Final assessment

All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.

Students are assessed in correspondence to the learning outcomes of the course. The final assessment will be given as a mark of “passed”/”failed” by the course instructor

New assessment

Students failing the course will have to apply to re-follow the course for a new assessment. Students may only re-follow the course if there are available places.
