Regulations for student associations at the Norwegian Academy of Music

A student association is a collection of students who come together for a joint organized activity on a voluntary basis. The student associations at NMH collaborate with the Student Committee (SUT) at NMH.

Criteria for establishing a student association

  • The association's purpose is to conduct business for and with students.
  • The association must be inclusive towards all students at NMH or other study centres associated with SiO.
  • The association must operate independently of religion, gender, orientation and outlook on life.
  • There must be at least four students from NMH to start an association.
  • The association must have statutes adopted by the association's highest body, which is the annual meeting.
  • The annual meeting shall be democratic and open to all members and shall be held at least once a year.
  • The association must be democratically structured, and the members must elect the board.
  • It must be clearly stated in the statutes which student group the association is aimed at (students at NMH or students from all educational institutions associated with SiO).
  • It must be clearly stated in the articles of association that the association is an independent democratic entity, even if the association is linked to SUT.
  • More than half of the board's members must be students at one or more educational institutions affiliated with SiO, and the association must at all times have a contact person who is a student at one or more educational institutions affiliated with SiO.
  • The association must follow the current Act on Universities and Colleges (the University and Colleges Act, link) and other Norwegian laws.
  • Any financial surplus must be used for the association. The board and other members cannot withdraw financial dividends from the association.
  • The association must follow NMH's drug policy.
  • When borrowing school premises, NMH's rules must be followed. Rooms are booked in TimeEdit.

When a student association is established, the association must be approved by SUT before the association is registered with the Student Union in Oslo (SiO). Registration with SiO provides benefits such as:

  • Possibility of applying for financial support
  • Interesting courses on association management, finances, etc
  • Associations are listed on the association overview of SiO. Activities offered by the associations can be promoted on the SiO associations' websites.

Rulebreaking

If the criteria are not followed, SUT can immediately cancel the association.

Liquidation

In the event of liquidation, any surplus must be transferred to a non-profit organization in line with the association's articles of association. If not, it must be transferred to SUT.

Publication of information

Information about the association is published on NMH and SiO's websites. This is so that other students can find the association and become members.Regulations adopted in collaboration between SUT and the head of studies and R&D, 18.10.22.
