Course description
The course prepares students for auditions in professional orchestras by practising the audition situation and receiving feedback from teachers and fellow students, as well as having conversations on relevant topics.
The course is for performance students with orchestra instruments. It can be chosen twice.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to
- know what is expected and judged in an audition
- show skills when performing standard audition pieces in authentic audition situations
Overview
The activities will alternate between reviewing and working with important orchestral excerpts of relevant instruments and performing excerpts under various forms of psychological pressure. A large own effort is expected from the students. The students will switch roles as a person auditioning, and a member of the jury. Students will practice giving and receiving constructive feedback.
To a certain degree, the student group will determine which areas are treated in class.
Structure
The course is taught for 3 times 45 minutes for 12 weeks at different intervals. Students are divided into groups of string players, woodwinds and brass.
Course requirements
- Attendance is mandatory. More than 20 % absence from class will normally cause the student to fail the subject.
- Students will participate in at least two practice auditions in front of a jury arranged in class.
Final assessment
All course requirements must be approved prior to obtaining a final assessment.
Assessment is based on learning objectives. The final assessment is given as a pass/fail mark, which is determined by the course coordinator based on each student’s individual level of achievement throughout the course period.
New assessment
In the case of re-assessment, students must retake the course in its entirety.
