Educational Quality

System for assurance, reports, and student evaluations.

To ensure and develop the quality of educational activities, the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) continuously supervises central areas of education and factors that affect them through its quality system.

1. Application numbers and admissions

NMH regularly evaluates application numbers, application procedures, and admission tests.

NMH aims to attract the best students and has many applications within all instruments and study programmes represented at the school. Admission to most studies takes place through admission tests. The tests must be relevant and suitable for selecting those best qualified for a survey at NMH.

2. Evaluation of study programmes

NMH assesses the study programmes offered at the institution through programme evaluations, course evaluations, evaluation of the study portfolio, working life, and candidate surveys.

3. Evaluation of international activities

Periodic assessments are carried out for the Norwegian Academy of Music’s international educational activity.

Internationalisation work is considered an essential tool for improving the quality of education. NMH collaborates with several central music education institutions. International contact and experience are vital for many students who will operate in an international labour market after completing their education.

4. Study Completion

NMH assesses the development of student numbers, credit production, study completion and assessment results.

An overview of the student's study completion is crucial for initiating measures against dropout. Every fourth year, NMH conducts a more extensive evaluation and analysis of the development of student numbers, credit production, study completion and assessment results. An overview of study completion at the programme level is part of the evaluation of study programmes (cf. 2.4 in the quality system). Annual key figures for study completion can be found here and in the quality system's annual report.

5. The competence of the academic staff

Robust academic environments are crucial for the development of educational quality at NMH. The quality of each teacher attracts good students, and the interaction and breadth of the academic climate create good study offers and academic innovation.

The academic environment associated with the various study programmes must continuously meet the requirements in § 2-3 of the study supervision regulations.

6. Learning Environment

NMH regularly evaluates the learning environment through internal and external surveys.

The management at NMH facilitates student participation in all central bodies and close contact between the management and the student council. The Learning Environment Committee is responsible for ensuring that the learning environment at the institution, including the physical and psychological working environment, is fully justifiable based on a comprehensive assessment of the student's health, safety, and welfare.

7. Annual Reports on Educational Quality

The Board of the Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH) is responsible for ensuring and developing educational quality. It should annually prepare the annual report, which assesses the academy's educational quality.
