Useful to know for newcomers

Here you can read about the Student Committee, diversity and equality, the communication channels we use at NMH, how to report if something is wrong, and how to navigate NMH.

Student Politics and Engagement

By participating in committees and groups, you contribute to a better study environment, and you have influence. Students are represented on the Board and all education-related committees, such as the Learning Environment Committee, Study Committee, and program committees.

Student Committee (SUT)

The Student Committee is the NMH students' organization. SUT acts as a link between students, management, and administration. SUT oversees lockers, manages practice rooms, advocates for essential student issues, and organizes social events.

Environment and Health

Zero tolerance for bullying and harassment

All students have the right to a safe and suitable study environment. Therefore, NMH has zero tolerance for all forms of bullying and harassment. You should always be able to develop in safe surroundings and trust that all staff have your best interests at heart. The Learning Environment Committee is responsible for ensuring a safe learning environment.

Speak up!

If you experience or witness unacceptable conditions at NMH, don't hesitate to report them. It's safe to do so, and you can be sure the matter will be addressed. You can choose to remain anonymous if you wish. Information about reporting procedures is available on student.nmh.no.

NMH's Diversity Declaration

Diversity at the Norwegian Academy of Music is about recognizing and making space for a broad spectrum of human, musical, social and cultural expressions, backgrounds, competencies and perspectives. Such diversity arises naturally out of inclusive and non-discriminatory communities. Therefore, the Norwegian Academy of Music wishes to promote this type of community, where people can meet, work, create and reside safely.

Adaptation

All students have an equal right to participate in the learning process. You can apply for accommodations in your study routine if you have a disability, illness, or other needs.

Musicians’ health

Musicians and music students score high on health related ailments. Practice an instrument is the activity that has the strongest effect on health. Therefore, we want to help prevent stress injuries and help you develop good work habits.

Teachers and other staff at NMH should refrain from using social media to communicate with students.

Facebook and other social media platforms do not guarantee privacy.

Newsletter "Etter noter"

"Etter noter" is NMH's internal newsletter – in Norwegian. Through "Etter noter," you can stay updated on information relevant to your study life. "Etter noter" is sent to your NMH email approximately every three weeks.

Getting Around

NMH consists of two buildings: Building 1 houses the main entrance and the cafeteria while Building 2 is behind Building 1. The two buildings are connected by a bridge on the 3rd floor and a corridor on the lower level. Rooms with 3 numbers are in Building 1, while rooms with 5 numbers are in Building 2.

Practice Rooms

There are practice rooms on the 5th floor of Building 1 and the 6th floor of Building 2. The practice rooms in Building 2 are for jazz students. Otherwise, all practice rooms are available to all students during school opening hours.

Here's how you can book practice rooms on the 5th floor of Building 1:

  • A form is posted next to each door. When you take over an available room, write down your first name and the time you started using the room on the form.
  • After one hour of practice, the next person in line may take the room. You can sign up for another hour if you haven't been asked to leave after 10 minutes.

Private teaching is not allowed at NMH.
